“Our job is to find out what listeners want, and to give it to them,” says Steve Wiersman, Broadcast Architecture’s program director and operations manager. “To accomplish that we conduct scientific research by going directly to the listeners. In addition, we’re here to help stations with the creative process and the unique and specific challenges each one faces in their respective market. I see it as a journey on which we accompany and assist our clients in both reaching various milestones of success, and then sustaining and building upon that success.”

Steve’s own successful journey into the world of radio began after he earned a degree in broadcast journalism from Connecticut’s University of Bridgeport. With sheepskin in hand his career was launched in Hartford where he successfully programmed WIOF-FM and WYSR-FM. After ten years in Hartford, Steve went on to chalk up stints with WVAE-FM in Cincinnati, WSJZ-FM in Buffalo, and KCIY-FM in Kansas City. In addition to his work as a program and music director Steve also held on-air positions at each of those stations and achieved top five status in both Cincinnati and Kansas City.

With a ten-year track record of successfully programming Smooth Jazz across the country, Wiersman joined Broadcast Architecture in 2001. Based out of Philadelphia, Steve assists BA’s Smooth Jazz clients in every facet of their operations, including overseeing format flips, conducting research, and providing analysis. “When I first came to BA I was working exclusively as a Smooth Jazz research analyst and consultant doing music testing and working closely with program directors. While that continues to be my main focus I’ve begun to work with stations that present every format across the dial.”

A connoisseur of fine dining, Steve regularly treats his wife and daughter to one of the many superb restaurants near his South Jersey home on the outskirts of Philadelphia. He and his family enjoy traveling and he is, of course, a huge music fan. “I also love movies,” says Steve. “I am really a major film buff who would describe my perfect day as being one of watching movies, movies, and more movies.”
