“My job is to gather and interpret research data,” explains Elliott Wood, Broadcast Architecture’s senior research analyst and director of special projects. “It is incredibly rewarding to work with some of the best programming minds in the industry – to be a part of their team, and to see research translated into a well-designed strategy they can follow to create the best possible play lists for their audiences, and to amplify their ratings and revenue.”

Elliott became interested in broadcasting during his undergrad at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a degree in communications with an emphasis in broadcasting. While striving toward that degree, he worked at the university’s station, WRCK, for which he ultimately served as general manager. During his collegiate career Elliott also moonlighted as an on-air personality with two commercial stations in nearby New Castle, PA.

After graduating, Elliott moved up and down the East Coast working as an on air personality with various stations. “I enjoyed being on the air, but to my surprise I found I was more enchanted with the behind-the-scenes action,” says Wood. “I really wanted to diversify my experience, and so I left my on-air job at WZNY-FM in Augusta, Georgia and headed over to CNN in Atlanta where I handled media and public relations during the Persian Gulf War.”

Following his time with CNN, Wood accepted a position as an instructor of broadcast and media related courses at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. During this time he also served as a faculty advisor with WMVB radio; worked with local bands; an independent record label, and returned to the airwaves with Pittsburgh’s heritage Rock powerhouse, WDVE.

In 1999, Wood was accepted a position with BA. In his starting role as a research analyst, and now more recently as Vice President of Domestic Projects he constantly traverses the nation, overseeing domestic projects and working closely with stations and their program directors.

A Trimix certified Scuba diver, Elliott loves to search for treasure and artifacts on the floor of oceans, lakes and rivers.  “I’m always on the lookout for a piece of the past – and for sharks and alligators too,” says Elliott. “Sharks are awesome.” He also enjoys tinkering around his house. “I’ve knocked out walls and changed the layout of my entire house,” he states. “I don’t really know what I’m doing at times, I just go until I mess something up real bad and then get a book or call a friend. I had to have one guy show me how to put my kitchen back together after I totally gutted it. I had no idea what to do as we stood in the shell of what once was my kitchen. Anyway, he gave me a hand and now it looks great.”
